From the Tech Desk of The Enginner MC
My journey into the world of events began when Iwas just 10 years old. I had the opportunity to give my first public performance: prepare a rap in front of 300 people on live TV AND get paid $50. That was a big money back when I was young. So I prepared and prepared. And when I got on stage, overwhelmed with fear, I broke down and ran off stage, losing both opportunity and the $50 I was supposed to earn. Shucks! From that moment, I vowed to build my confidence and never let fear hold me back again. This core memory has shape who I am today: a confident and skilled communicator, helping others overcome their own self- imposed limitations and seize opportunities.
Growing up, I never knew hosting could be a career. My parents encouraged me to pursue a practical and stable career path, so I studied mechanical engineering in college. But my extroverted personality and love for being in the spotlight never faded. During my time at university, I became the president of both the Black Student Union and the African Student Association. I emceed events like galas, fashion shows, and balls, and I discovered how much I loved mentoring others and helping them grow as leaders. That passion for mentorship became a core part of who I am, driving me to find ways to uplift others and help them advance in their careers.
After graduating, my first professional emceeing opportunity came when a friend asked me to MC their wedding. I eagerly volunteered and was determined to make it an unforgettable event. I prepared relentlessly, studying seasoned MCs, and poured my energy into the performance. The guests loved it! Word quickly spread, and soon I was emceeing everything from charity galas corporate functions.
